Creating Balance in Your Routine During the Summer
During the summer months, it can be a challenge to stick to a routine and balance work, family, downtime and self-care. Summer tends to become free and easy and, while that can be a good thing some of the time, it is important to remember to listen to your body and give it what it needs.
A few key elements to help maintain a healthy balance include:
Eat fresh, regular meals. Keep your body nourished and energized by eating fresh, light meals. Stick to salads and fresh fruits and vegetables and avoid weighing yourself down with heavy breads and rich foods. Be mindful that you are not skipping meals during your busy summer days! Drink a fresh smoothie for breakfast and always have some healthy snacks on hand for when you are on the go.
Be sure to balance family time with work time. Most people need to continue working through the summer months, and this can create challenges for those with young children or visiting family. Do your best to maintain balance by setting aside time to spend with your children exploring summer together and to visit family. If you start to feel stressed or rushed, take some time out for yourself!
Take time out for yourself. Work out, read, rest, and relax! Just like you need to set aside time for your children and other family members, you need to take time for yourself as well. Summer can be busy and overwhelming if you let it, so do you best to balance the needs of others, work and most importantly yourself. Summer is a time to relax and enjoy, don’t burn yourself out!
Stick to a healthy routine. This may sound like a difficult task since summer is mostly viewed as the time to kick back and go with the flow. However, sticking to some type of routine will help you stay balanced and healthy. Make sure you have days set aside for health and fitness – attend a regular yoga class, get out for a run, or head to the gym on set days of the week. Keep a daily schedule and stick to it. Get up at the same time and try to go to bed at the same time each day. This may be a challenge with BBQ’s and other summer delights, but do your best. Keep a routine but stay flexible when necessary.
Keep your attitude light! While sticking to a routine is a great way to feel balanced, make sure if plans change you don’t get too caught up in the drama. Go with the flow as much as you can and enjoy the free and easy feel of summer!
Summer days are to be enjoyed. So, get out in nature and spend time with family and friends. Do your best to maintain a healthy balance among work, family, friends, and yourself. Drink fresh smoothies, eat big green salads, and take time out for a nap now and then. Wishing you a beautiful fun filled summer season!
